Book 1 in the USA Today Bestselling Bliss series by BJ Harvey starts with the woman who started it all and the 'superhero' who proved her wrong. All five books in the series are now available for purchase.

Blurb
Makenna Lewis cringes at any mention of the word commitment. She doesn’t want or need a relationship, but she does like sex (who doesn't).

That explains Noah, Sean, and Zander, her three 'friends with benefits'.

They know the score, they know they're not the only one, and each of them provide her with a different physical need that she craves and enjoys.

Until a late night encounter with the delicious Daniel Winters turns her preconceived notion of no-commitment completely on its head.

Soon she finds herself feeling things she vowed never to feel again, and when Daniel pushes for more than she’s willing to give, she falters.

What do you do when something that you’ve known to be so wrong in the past feels so damn right?

If you’re Mac, you run and hide.

But is Daniel the type of man who takes no for an answer?

*The Bliss series is now complete and can be purchased separately or as one whole set.*

***Disclaimer - There is absolutely no cheating in this book. However, this book does contain descriptive and super hot sex scenes that will make you blush and leave you hot and bothered. Make sure you have you husband, partner, boyfriend or significant other nearby when reading, or else batteries. Lots and lots of batteries***

I swear this book gave me whiplash. We start out in the prologue with this heavy, gritty, gripping look at Mac’s life. I was all set for a really great story of overcoming adversity. But then…..we flash forward a few years and I was a little stunned.
Here’s the thing – I love non-virginal heroines. I get really sick of virgins or near-virgins or women who just need the love (and tongue) of a good man to break free from their frigidity and love sex. I like a heroine who likes sex. So please don’t think I’m slut-shaming Mac here. I actually love that part of her personality – or, I do right up until she meets Daniel.
Now, don’t worry, she’s not a cheater. BUT, the story is told with a lot of flashbacks. So we’ve got Mac & Daniel having this really great, sweet romance. Mac isn’t into the love thing, but it’s still sweet. But we also get a lot of sexual flashbacks to her previous partners. And while I’m cool within knowing they happened, the explicit details of them makes the book feel like sex-scenes-for-the-sake-of-sex-scenes. You know I love smut, but I didn’t love the way that was done.
And then there’s Mac’s inability to deal with her emotions. Once or twice, I could deal. But that last time? Well, both Daniel and I were pretty peeved. Which brings me to Daniel.
Delicious Daniel is, indeed, delicious. His does this thing where he wants to be everything Mac wants and it’s so hot and sweet at the same time, I love it. But we also get very little info about him. I really would have liked some of his POV, or even some of his history. I just wanted more character development from him.
It’s really not bad for a first book, especially for free. I would not be opposed to reading more of BJ Harvey’s books (including the next in this series) but I do hope to see some growth in the writing as there were definitely some things I didn’t love.

Temporary Bliss edition by BJ Harvey Jennifer RobertsHall Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

McKenna Lewis as a heroine is a woman who keeps the reader going forward, hoping that she can find a way through the maze of non relationships in which she has embroiled herself following a traumatic period in her life involving an abusive boyfriend. Readers can feel her fears and we know she is seeking some kind of relational stability in her life. Yet she runs at the slightest hint of permanence. Yes, her encounters with Noah, Zander and Sean are erotic and well written, but Mac's level of denial about her deepest needs is truly profound and are given expression through the voice of her best friend Kate. Their enduring friendship is always a high point in the story as I think we all crave a person in our lives who can be the honest and I'll-love-you-no-matter-what kind of friend. Kate keeps Mac grounded without violating the process Mac needs to recognize she needs someone permanent and someone she can trust to cherish her. This novel embraces some hefty relational issues and does it with a wide range of emotions. The writing is well done and flows well from scene to scene. Characters are crafted to be unique and each makes the story brim with the tensions that make a good story fun to read while challenging the reader far more than an easy superficial sex story. I really really liked this novel. Good writing, interesting characters, sexual tension, full range of human emotions -- what's not to like? Do yourself a favor and dive in!
First book in the Bliss series.

The book starts out interesting. The protagonist escapes from a bad relationship that she entered because of love and despite the warnings of her friends and family. The lesson she learns from this is to avoid love since it can't be trusted. Lust is okay but no love.

Several years later she meets a sexy man, saying all the right things, who wants love and is not interested in sharing her; however, she has three friends with benefits. The plot is predictable but the story contains a lot of gratuitous sex set in flashbacks which don't move the story forward. Also, there is a lot of aggravating repetition in the story.

I found the roommate's story much more interesting.
After reading the blurb, I thought this would be a perfect book and series for me. I love silly, snarky, strong heroines, and the promise of super sexy times had me eager to meet Mac and Daniel. I loved the idea of the girl being the commitment-phobe and playgirl. However, this ended up being not my thing.

I struggled to ever like Mac. I didn't understand the refusal to leave the first bf, and I really couldn't go along with that experience making her so scared of relationships; but everyone handles things differently, so I tried to roll with it. She never came across as a truly sweet person though, so I kept feeling the hero was getting shafted. In fact, I thought she came across the way she described Noah.

I didn't really find the humor that funny. It seemed more ditzy humor, I guess, maybe immature. I also struggled with the narration voice and writing style. It's written like Mac is talking to a friend, not bad, but it was overly stream of consciousness for my taste. Add in repetitive phrasing and descriptions, and I had to stop myself from skimming. On top of this there were enough editing/spelling/grammar errors, that I became distracted.

As for the sexy times, they certainly didn't have me squirming or reaching for my husband. However, this may be due to my disconnect with the heroine and writing style. Finally, the ending sealed my rating. I just didn't get it at all. I didn't feel like much character/relationship growth happened in light of all the characters worked through.

Everyone has their preferred writing/narration style and their own sense of humor, so I'm sure there are plenty of fans. For me, I needed more snark and less ditz.
